Every place has a story, but some stories are written over centuries. Ooike Wijnhof is one of them. What stands today as a young and ambitious vineyard is rooted in a farmhouse that has witnessed more than 200 years of change, resilience, and renewal.
The origins of Ooike Wijnhof date back to the early 19th century, when the farmhouse was first built as a working agricultural site. Like many farms of its time, it was designed with practicality in mind—solid walls, functional spaces, and a close relationship with the surrounding land. Generations worked the fields here, shaping both the landscape and the identity of the place.
Over time, the role of the farmhouse evolved. As agriculture modernized and rural life changed, parts of the property lost their original function. Yet, despite periods of quiet and transition, the essence of the site remained intact. The buildings stood firm, carrying with them the memory of past harvests, hard work, and seasonal rhythms.
When we first arrived at Ooike Wijnhof, we saw more than an old farmhouse—we saw potential. The vision was not to erase the past, but to build on it. The idea of transforming this historic site into a vineyard felt like a natural continuation of its story: a return to working with the land, but in a new and thoughtful way.
The restoration process was guided by respect. Original elements of the farmhouse were preserved wherever possible, from structural features to small details that reflect its age and character. At the same time, modern touches were carefully introduced to make the space functional for its new purpose. This balance between old and new is at the heart of Ooike Wijnhof.
Today, the farmhouse is more than just a building—it is the soul of the vineyard. It serves as a place to gather, to taste, and to share the journey behind the wines. Visitors who walk through its doors step into a space where history and future meet, where the legacy of the land continues in a different form.
Ooike Wijnhof is still at the beginning of its winemaking story, but its roots go much deeper. The 200-year-old farmhouse reminds us that great things take time—and that every bottle we produce in the future will carry a piece of this history with it.
